A hopeful hospital birth of twins in Quebec
Two months after my wedding to my wonderful husband I was pregnant. I've had a previous child and I immediately felt that this pregnancy was different. My stomach was growing so fast that I looked six months pregnant in my third month. People around me were teasing me about my size. Looking back, my husband wanted to have twins. He mentioned it all the time and we prayed together for this to happen constantly. I even had multiple dreams of having twins. One of our pastors prophesied that we would have twins a week before our ultrasound. With all those signs we were still shocked to learn at our first ultrasound that we were waiting for identical twin boys who shared the same placenta.
"Prayer, team work, communication and unity made our pregnancy stress free."
We praised God for this news, although having twins does not put me in a high risk pregnancy category. I was blessed to have access to a nutritionist who followed me and helped me have adequate nutritional intake for the twins. My husband helped tremendously by taking on house chores although he was working. Prayer, team work, communication and unity made our pregnancy stress free. Twin pregnancy always carries the stigma of having premature babies but I went full term with my babies. My OB wanted to induce me. I accepted because it was my husband's birthday and I was so excited for my twins to share a birthday with him!
In the birth room was my OB with five nurses and one anesthetist in case of the necessity of an emergency c section. I had prayed beforehand that God spared me from a C-section and the use of epidural. And He did.
My first twin came out gently and rapidly. Everything was going well and we were expecting my second to come down. Instead, he went back up in my uterus! The medical staff started panicking as they were worried he would lack oxygen. My husband and I were praying while the OB pressed on the top part of my uterus to push my second
twin down toward the birth canal.
"This experience was not scary to us because we had faith in God"
Another doctor showed up and inserted his hands inside the birth canal to try and pull the baby down by grabbing his feet. The whole maneuver lasted six minutes. so six minutes Later my second twin was born and I was overjoyed. All three of us were in good health and we enjoyed adapting to our new life since my husband was able to take a six month parental leave. This experience was not scary to us because we had faith in God and we believed that He would provide.
